Presidents' Welcome Message.
May I welcome you on behalf of the Institute of Construction Management, which was formed in 1842 for Practicing General Foremen and Supervisors & Clerks of Work: with some general changes it was inaugurated as it is today in 1974. The Institute stands for "KNOWLEDGE LOYALTY and INTEGRITY".
KNOWLEDGE - gained by information, skill & experience through work, education and life.
LOYALTY - generates a strong feeling of support of belonging to something that is important in being involved.
INTEGRITY - engenders the quality of being honest, morally upright, indeed a whole person.
If you wish to be part of something important, have a formal qualification and receive recognition of all the dedication you have given to the industry in whatever capacity you are employed in, why not consider joining this Institute? We have an open door policy and welcome new members from all walks of the Construction Industry. Each of our governing Directors and regional centre councillors, and in particular, our Membership Director Mike Bishop, will be happy to discuss the Institute's activities, aims and objectives with all prospective new members.
Becoming a member of The Institute of Construction Management not only gives credibility to the individual, but is also a way to prove a level of professional competency by the employer when tendering for new projects. The Institute strongly believes and advocates learning and keeping abreast of current trends by continuing professional development for members. It instigates topical field visits to manufacturing plants and construction projects of architectural, historical or environmental interests, along with seminars for instruction and discussion by experts in various aspects of the construction world.
Within the Institute of Construction Management, which we consider to be a family, we also have social events to blend with the more serious aspects of business and once again each local centre has a committee dedicated to organise events designed to bring together members in more relaxed surroundings to enjoy each other's company. I have had the pleasure of attending well organised national functions and local regional events over the last couple of years. The Institute holds its Executive Council meetings at 3 monthly intervals at Brackley in Northamptonshire. [This has been found, by past experience, to be the most accessible central venue for members.] The Institute is divided into six regions: dedicated and likeminded members run these regions and help to keep the Institute going forward into the 21st century. The National Executive Council and Governors of the Institute work tirelessly to keep the infrastructure in place. They keep the membership stabilised. They also direct the Institute's activities, aims and objectives and also control our finances.
One of our highlights is our magazine "Viewpoint", edited and printed by Clive Feather and issued quarterly issued to Institute members. The Website is regularly updated, so please, continue to logon to www.the-icm.com for updates and news about the Institute and our activities.
For the Institute to grow, from strength to strength it welcomes the help and support of new members from the Construction Industry. Perhaps if you are looking us up for the first time you would like to know more: if so please write to us at membership@the-icm.com.
