AGM & National Rally 2011

36th Annual General Meeting and Rally held 16th July 2011 at the Menzies Mickleover Court Hotel, Derby

The current National President, Mark Rea, started the meeting, welcomed the members and thanked them for their attendance. Following on from the Governor opening, David John extended his thanks to the Executive Officers and Governors for their own time and efforts in keeping the Institute advancing and fluid. Mark also showed his appreciation to Mike and Dorothy for organising the Caravan Rally again; Ted and Gill for putting on the Rally; Ken and Pauline for their last Olympic Tour, and wished all the best to the newlyweds Eric and Jan.

John Sinfield, Director of Finance, presented his report stating a small loss in 2010 due to; A reduction in current membership, Increase in retired membership- reduced subscriptions, Late payment of membership in the following year and the current employment climate. John’s suggestions to improve the current financial performance means; Increase subscriptions, Increase membership and try other forms of increasing revenue. John was thanked by The President on behalf of the Institute. Tony Baker, Director of Policy and Resources, was another Executive officer to stand and report on the advancement of The Competance Registers to be launched in the near future.

Other Directors to present their reports were; Diane Charlton- Gereral Secretary, Cliff Brown- Director of Education & Training, Mike Bishop- Director of Menbership, John Armstrong- Webmaster. Finally, Mike will be handing over the position of Director of Membership to Ian Trickey within the next few months. Mike was thanked for the work he had put in over the last 12 years or so, but he said he will continure at Regional level. John displayed the new looking front page of the website and ran through the interactive features that will be available. Governor Michael Wilkinson closed the morning meeting. Members and their partners enjoyed a buffet lunch folowing the AGM.

Ted and Gill laid on a trip to The National Memorial Arboretum and Alf Presented a donation on behalf of the Institute to the fund.

The Gala Dinner and Dance, with 76 in attendance, enjoyed music from “Familiar Faces” and the VIP guests were South Derbyshire councillor Mr Michael Stanton and his dear wife. Our Vice President, Les Helliwell, introduced Leon Chilton to the dinner guests with an esteemed account of Leon’s work throughout the year, and pictured below, being presented with his Site Manager of The Year award and cup by National President Mark Rea. Congratulations Leon!
